A statement made by my homegirl as we discussed the summer preparations ‘necessary’ for us gals with the rapidly approaching beach weather. I had a friend coming over to tan on the roof, and I was feeling insecure about my new... hair growth during the winter months. This got us talking about all of the things that frustrate us about being a woman - like having to be hairless to be considered attractive, and it costing $100 every 3 weeks. Or having to present a certain physique to be considered womanly. Walking a certain way to affirm your femininity. The financial and emotional cost of having a period. And then not being allowed to openly talk about it because it's “impolite”? While men walk around scratching themselves in public, secretly hiding roofies with erections under the bar.
This is how I immortalize the essence of our existence. For the girls…
