The story of the development of Oliviér’s creative style, and how her equally creative experiences during her hiatus had impacted her. From love to loss and rediscovery; from self-doubt and anxiety to self determination and resilience, to discovery again. From the death of Laura to the birth of Lo.
“The world over the past few years has been so drastically unpredictable, the idea of things ever being the way that they were has been a far-gone fantasy for many. As business folks, doctors and creatives alike, we have all had to learn to take the drastic changes and embrace them, rather than run from them as we had been. For me, my creativity was always based on my awareness of the things that made my world go round—capitalism, love, injustice, pain, life, death; all the good and all the bad. I embraced it all. However, somewhere amongst the infinite mindless murders of my people and the weight of an unclear future for myself and my community, I felt that I mentally couldn't afford to remain so aware. Caring about anything felt like too much of a burden as the world was burning, and I chose to put out one fire with another. In that, I created an escape, an alt persona, which quickly manifested itself to live where my identity once did. It was only in this creation, and all that preceded and occurred thereafter, that I was able to realize we are made of all elements for a reason.
After three years of many mistakes, heartaches, failures, and no completed work in between, I have a much more forgiving outlook on life. Lo Oliviér is the creation of a lost child and the result of a growing love to understand oneself, as is Broken Masterpieces. Today, my understanding of what makes my world go round has only grown stronger; it is ever-evolving, and it is, above all, masterful. And though the journey has been chaotic, my purpose in this life is more concise than it's ever been, as that is ever-changing as well. Through this project, I reimagine the stages of the emotions and perceptions I’d experienced to get me to this point of clarity in my artistry through textures, fabrication, ethos, and music.”
